About Me

"I share what I know and I only know what I share"

me

I can’t exactly pinpoint when I started using a camera but I must admit that I was an ‘expert’ at Program-mode during the film and my Point-and-Shoot digital photography days (I didn’t know how to use any other modes then). It had always been just shoot and let the lab do the rest. I must admit shamelessly that there were days when I actually shoot without the film properly inserted and only found that out when the lab told me so! OK, sometimes even without the film!

My first and only digital P&S camera was a Fuji 4700 that cost me just below RM3000. When my eldest daughter "hijacked" it I thought I would get a replacement at the same price bracket to continue my occasional shoots of my family. To my pleasant surprise I could actually get a Nikon D50 which I did. I subsequently joined a local forum to learn what I could on this new-found hobby. It was then that I was introduced to the world of post-processing. Not one to be easily satisfied with basic knowledge and thankfully being one who can absorb good pointers like a sponge I began to explore further which included attending workshops both locally and overseas. One of the workshops I attended was by my good friend Manuel Librodo of Bangkok who opened up the world of post-processing for me. I have since moved on to develop my own style and the way I like to see my images being processed.

Gear-wise, one month after purchasing the D50 I traded it in to get the D200. It was then purchase after purchase until now with me presently having a Nikon D3 and the following: Nikon 17-35mm/2.8, 70-200mm/2.8 VR, SB 800, SB 600, Epson P4500 Photoviewer/Storage etc. I don’t know when I will stop and whoever has a cure for NAS (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome) please do share your remedy.

So what do I shoot mainly? Available light portraiture is the mainstay of my photography, and travel photography. Even though I have 2 flashguns I hardly use them nowadays. I find available light photography not to cramp my style especially the fact that I can shoot almost anywhere at almost anytime with minimal setting up. Moreover I tend to get better end results. Gone were the days of me carrying my umbrellas and lightstands. Now with the mind-boggling high ISO performance of the D3, failing light is less of an issue.

Do I teach? I try not to due to time constrain as a busy pediatrician. If anyone wants to learn my style of post-processing you may look at my ebook on Post-Processing for Beginners and ebook for the Advanced available here, and occasional pointers that I may add at my Learning Corner. If you have any questions I will be very happy to answer them the best way I can. Sharing of knowledge is what I like and it is through sharing that I can continue to learn and enjoy photography.

Finally thanks for coming to my site. If you have any comments or queries feel free to drop me an email and I will reply you at the earliest possible opportunity. Meanwhile have fun with photography!
