This is Kharunisia taken with Nikon [...]]]> I have always wanted to re-process this and finally got down to do it. This is a very different workflow from what I used to do. I worked more on the skin, added some colors to the make-up and used a combination of blend modes. I hope you like it.

Trying to get the Hmong people of Sapa to pose for a photo  during my trip there was usually declined unless you buy something from them. This lady was an exception.

It was taken when I had a holiday to Guilin, China recently. I took a trip to Longsheng to visit the Zhuang minority tribe when this 3 yr-old Zhuang boy caught my attention. He was so expressive while chewing on his sugar cane.

This was taken at a workshop by Manuel Librodo organised by me in Kuala Lumpur. Kharu was given the Chinese opera costume and she did her own make-up to suit the theme. Manny and I did a reflection series of her. Lighting wasn’t too good hence the high ISO and slowish shutter speed.

This years cleansing ritual at sunrise during Thaipusam really fascinated me. Besides the throngs of people and followers, there were many photographers too especially around those performing their rituals. 

This one is special to me. When I noticed him I could see the image I would like to capture. I maneuvered and jostled for a spot. [...]]]>  

This years cleansing ritual at sunrise during Thaipusam really fascinated me. Besides the throngs of people and followers, there were many photographers too especially around those performing their rituals. 

This one is special to me. When I noticed him I could see the image I would like to capture. I maneuvered and jostled for a spot. And to avoid the crowd of photographers behind him I lowered the angle (and got myself a little wet) to capture this.

Learning point: Do not just shoot at eye level. Always consider angles that may result in a better background.

This is my all time favourite of Krystal Virulchanya, an actress-model from Bangkok. This was taken at my one-on-one workshop with the very talented photographer Manuel Librodo in late 2006. We placed Krystal in the shade with the mid-morning light streaming through the leaves of a nearby tree forming interesting patterns on her face and her left shoulder. Behind in the distance was the brick-wall of a church. I increased the warmth of the background by post-processing to complement the image. This method is described in great detail in my ebook for the advanced.

This was taken on one of my many personal trips to Bali. This gentleman was a souvenir vendor at the ground floor along the west side of Ubud market. It was mid-morning with light coming through the gap between two buildings from above him.
